Writing with a Full on Full Time Life

Hello Everyone,

This week has been the usual full on full time madness; work, home, sleep and write.

Having full time life means that writing has little room left yet those of us passionate about it know that you find ways to squeeze it in.

As I have stated in previous blogs I travel upwards of an hour each way too and from work this can easily double if the traffic banks up from an accident.
So I try to fit my writing in at the beginning and end of each day with an outline for each task, a goal. Sometimes that goal maybe to complete 3 character profiles, other times it is to write as much of a scene as possible.

I often get home exhausted and strung out from a long day and a long drive.
I have days were my greatest and only goal is a shower and to crash into bed. Does this impact my writing, definitely but I firmly believe that writing whilst exhausted or angry is often much more detrimental to your process, not to mention your story's progress.
I have tried and my two most common results is writing something that makes no sense to the plotline that I am working on at the time or making me even angrier and completely unable to form a sentence which then makes me extremely frustrated.

On these nights I try to give myself a guilt free night off, to just relax and wind down. Because self care is just as important as your writing!

But things are changing, I have accepted and will soon be starting a new job much, much closer to home which will cut my travel time down massively (we are talking hours!).
Celebrating the New Job

This I am hoping will help me in multiple ways, the first and possibly most obvious is financially as I will no longer be travelling through multiple toll points everyday, nor will my vehicle be using so much fuel.

The second is a health kick, my chronic illness has ramped itself up recently and as the symptoms make themselves a little more pronounced each day I have had to fend off low grade fevers, insomnia, fatigue and pain. I am hoping to be able to start spending a little more time on self care, including some light exercise and much better food choices.
I have a meal plan to follow now and I hoping that this will assist with the pain and fatigue management but also have a good impact on my weight which has piled on in the last few years.

Lastly, of course is my writing. Extra time in my day means extra time for my writing which means that I can make some serious progress on my novel, or should I say recovery as I have lost the data previously held on my computer which did not survive repairs and the back up somehow corrupted and the data was unusable *cries* but I am looking at the bright side and that it that my writing sessions won't be so spread out and disjointed which will hopefully means I can focus on getting the words on the page in a way I am happier with.
I like to sit and write for longer periods of time, I find that if I attempt to 'sprint' I don't seem to be able to keep the continuity of the story.
Instead I supplement my research into these times and will see if anything has hit the forums or chat boards in relation to my topics or theories and taking notes on those to keep up with the latest discussions.
