Let's Talk Weird #3

Hello Everyone,

Today we will be diving back down that internet rabbit hole of weirdness, and this time we will be discussing the Moon.

Specifically the 'Hollow Moon Theory'. This particular theme was integral in creating my story idea and developing the plot for my WIP, it was a major what if? sort of story idea.

In saying all of that why don't we delve into it!

Hollow Moon Theory.

This is another theory that seems to have been born from Science Fiction writings, a particular title
that comes to mind is H. G. Wells 1901 novel 'The First Men in the Moon' which was about an epic journey to the Moon in which the characters find all is not what it appears to be from Earth, in fact that the Moon is hollow and and occupied by an insectoid race.

60 years after the release of this novel we started landing on the Moon and the Hollow Moon Theory recaptured imaginations.
During the landing missions the astronauts deployed seismic equipment (seismometers) which capture, record and transmit data relating to movement and vibration. These were deployed regularly during the Moon landings of Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15 & 16 and continued to collect and transmit data back to Earth until the were switched off in 1977.
Despite the relatively, in my opinion, short time they were deployed they managed to capture a wealth of data which has revealed a lot about the Moon and particularly about Moon quakes. These quakes have since been divided into 4 categories:

  1. Deep (700km below the surface)
  2. Vibration (Caused by Meteorite Impact)
  3. Thermal Quakes
  4. Shallow (20-30km below the surface)
It was the shallow quakes that cause the theory to surge and it was said that during a shallow quake the Moon would 'ring like a bell'.
This was furthered by an article written for Popular Science in March 1970, the phrase utilized after Apollo 12 purposefully crashed/dumped the 2.5 tonne Ascent stage of its Lunar Module onto the Moon's surface. It was claimed that the Moon 'rang like a bell' for roughly an hour after the impact.

Spaceship Moon Theory

The second Moon theory, closely related to the 'Hollow Moon Theory' is the 'Spaceship Moon Theory'.
This theory is based off an article written in the 1970's by two soviet scientists, Michael Vasin & Alexander Shcherbakov, hypothesized that the Moon is an artificial, hollowed out satellite placed by a highly advanced alien race.
They do not speculate as too what type of being/s put the 'satellite' into Earths orbit. This theory does have a level of sense to it if you believe the Moon is hollow already. This leads to theories that an alien race, instead of depositing a colony on the Moons surface, used the Moon as a generational spaceship instead.
Many point to the impact craters and the way they form as support of this theory as even the largest craters are shallow, suggesting a solid, impenetrable layer beneath all the Moon rocks and dust.

Interestingly it has been noted that some of the Moon rocks also date much older than rocks on Earth, even though both were apparently formed during the same period of time. Some scientists hypothesize that this is due to Earth still being geologically active.
New rocks are still being formed on Earth whilst many of the old are returned to the Mantle via subduction.
But to those that believe in the Hollow Spaceship Moon Theory say that this is further proof of the moon being constructed elsewhere and planted in Earth's Orbit by an ancient and highly advanced race.

My question, which I suppose helped spur the thought train that lead to my book plot, is why? Why would  an ancient and highly advanced race want to build such a large satellite? Why would they place it to orbit the Earth? Was it placed to watch humanity or to monitor something else entirely?

So many questions! What do you think? Does this theory make sense to you? Will you look into the Hollow Moon Theory? Do you believe in Aliens?
