Mental
Who ever thought sitting and writing would be hard? Stories run constantly around and around in your mind your imagination creating scenarios, worlds, dangers and the characters in them.
During the day while at work they build themselves in your mind so completely you think you'll never forget them, but then you sit down at home in front of your laptop and look at that blank page the cursor blinking at you... almost mockingly on those really bad days... and every thought of a character from their looks and attitude, to the situations you were imagining them in has vanished from your mind.
I have never been exceptionally good at sitting at my laptop and typing out my stories direct, I suppose I think better when I am slightly distracted. I prefer pen and paper, to the point that I become over protective of the preferred pen I'm currently using. Sometimes a blank page can be just as mocking as a blinking cursor but somehow to me it still feels more organic and my thoughts still flow a little easier.
I can keep a small note book with me at work to scribble quick notes on a character features and outfit, on an idea for a scene or even just a short conversation the characters may have had. Occasionally I will receive odd looks, and certainly find that telling people that the voices needed an out will make others question your sanity.
But honestly, sometimes having a story run around your head in circles can make you feel a little mad. The ability to bring those voices and places into this world even if it's just for yourself is a little treasure I never want to surrender. Share with the world? Definitely!!!
